It’s a Wrap!

November 11, 2010

Yesterday’s noontime nosh was delish!

For lunch I made myself a wrap.  It started with a Flat Out Light Italian wrap and roasted red pepper hummus.  I then added a leaf of romaine lettuce, slices of green pepper and carrot, a local sharp cheddar cheese and a handful of spinach.  Topped it off with some salt and pepper and then wrapped it up.  Yum!

I enjoyed it with joni gold apple slices sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon and sugar.  🙂

Yesterday evening was also running group night.  I love running group night. 🙂  We did 3.2 miles.  I was not happy with my time but I was glad that I was able to run the entire distance without walking, to be honest.  Lately I have been feeling very heavy and slow in my running. I feel like I am just plodding along.  I’m not really sure why.  It may be because I haven’t been running as much lately but I have still been working out, so I wouldn’t think I would have lost that much stamina.  The air is also much cooler now and I think that might affect my breathing.

My goal for the Turkey Trot was to finish in under 30 minutes and I’m truthfully not sure how achievable that is right now when I feel like I am struggling with my running.  I’m worried about even being able to set a PR. I’ve adjusted my workout schedule to fit in more running days but it might be too little too late.  I didn’t realize I was going to hit this wall and probably should have upped my running days a long time ago but I was really enjoying my HIIT workouts and also the yoga.

I know there will always be other races but I am a little bummed that I may have to adjust my goals for the Turkey Trot.

What do you wear to run in cooler weather?  Any gear recommendations?  I think I need to get some sweat wicking pants and shirts.

It’s been just a above freezing here and I’ve been wearing my Lululemon running tights. My new obsessions are my legwarmers and armwarmers from Lululemon. This way, I can wear my usual running capris and shirts when it’s cool out! I’ve also started wearing my Sugoi neckwarmer because I’ve got cold-induced asthma and need to keep my mouth covered while I run. I’m eyeing some Under Armour gear – they have cold weather gear that seems like it would be good.

I also feel like my stamina is dropping, since I haven’t been working out as much. I try to look on the bright side: it just means I’ll be that much faster when I start running more again, after the end of the school year. You can’t always PR, right? Good luck in your turkey trot!

I have asthma as well and the cold does make it worse. However, I also have bad (year-round allergies) and I’m a little afraid something covering my nose/mouth might get a little gross… if you know what I mean. The legwarmers and armwarmers are a great idea though.

My recommendation for the Turkey Trot is to train as best you can up until the race and just give it what you’ve got without the pressure of any time goals. You may surprise yourself and if it takes longer to run it….just try to enjoy the experience. The thing I love most about races is getting out there and the sense of community.

Regarding clothing, I picked up some great winter gear with wicking (jackets and pants) at under armour. Love it. Don’t forget the gloves too. They absolutely help on those chilly days.

That is what I am trying to do. I do still have that time goal but I’m not married to it and I’m trying to simply use it for motivation. I’m sure the experience will be great no matter what.

      Thanks for the recommendations!
